This charming family-run inn has an attractive and tranquil setting in the midst of the rolling Marlborough Downs, with great access to the region’s major road network.

The owners were wonderful - I was allowed to check in early and get out of the bad weather which I really appreciated. There were complimentary scones and biscuits which were fantastic and I was very grateful for. The rooms are great and I enjoyed my stay.

A delightful stay in a lovely inn. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Every one was friendly and welcoming, including the dog! Our evening meal was highly enjoyable with excellent service. The light breakfast was perfect before a long drive, especially the real coffee. All in all, a very nice stay in a beautiful inn with great hosts. We hope to visit again!

The Pheasant has a good ambience. We've stayed there several times. It's location is perfect, just off the m4. All the staff were very pleasant and attentive. Food very good. Room spotless and a comfortable size. A large car park. We'll return again.

Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.
What a lovely Inn , full of charm and history.
Great team ,all very attentive, dedicated and welcoming ... very good atmosphere ... and what a delightful kitchen ,great food !!!!
We had a fantastic stay at the shears inn! We were grateful to receive a very friendly welcome when we arrived from a long day of cycling and were able to securely store our bikes and move our dinner earlier. The dinner was delicious and room had everything we needed, even kindly giving us herbal tea
The dinner was fantastic. I started with calamari... but what arrived was so much more than the deep fried muck one normally gets... Then a really simple pizza with mozzarella and basil. What arrived was a homemade delight and (and I said this to my brother) the best pizza I have ever tasted. Note: I lived in Italy for three months. The room was comfy and clean.
Our rooms were large and the en-suite had not only a shower but also bath - very welcome after a long day of walking. We had a lovely dinner. The Owners were very welcoming and they even reserved us seats to watch the football.
Breakfast was delicious and Set us up for another day of hiking The Ridgeway. We also ordered packed lunches - they come highly recommended.
Perfect place to stay after walking the Ridgeway. Really spacious comfortable room, great bath and shower, delicious food both at dinner and in the morning. The landlords were lovely and made me feel v welcome as a solo traveller. Would certainly recommend and stay again.
Dinner & breakfast both superb, nicely refurbished room in lovely historic inn. Friendly, hard-working staff doing a brilliant job. Great location in centre of very attractive old town.
