Beware - animal mistreatment by this hotel
My partner and I were excited to stay at Eteka based on the beautiful location and the wonderful reviews.
Nothing could prepare us for the way the staff knowingly treated an animal on their premises.
A visibly emaciated but otherwise healthy dog approaches their perimeter each night in search of food. He does not run around, make a noise or disturb guests. He is calm, gentle, and weak from starvation. The staff kicked at this dog. I asked that I might be able to give some leftovers to the dog far from the hotel and advised the staff I would like to bring the dog to a vet or animal sanctuary so that he may be cared for properly or, if needed, euthanized; rather than slowly starving to death.
The dog was clearly domesticated and well trained, and was likely left behind by a previous owner.
At every other historical site, public space, hotel, or hostel that we visited in Cartagena stray dogs were treated with respect and humanity. I can understand why a hotel would not want to encourage a dog to return by feeding them, however, I expect them to show basic decency and humanity in contacting one of multiple animal rescues situated Amir 20 minute boat right away, who would come and collect the dog and provide further guidance.
I repeatedly ask them to let me do this, found two sanctuary, willing to fetch the dog and take him to an found two sanctuary, willing to fetch the dog and take him to a vet, and checked on local regulations. Despite making arrangements my pleas for help were repeatedly ignored. I was initially told the dog belonged staff and when I asked why he was starving the staff laughed at me. I have since approached the management in person, via email, and via text and was ignored.
Complacency in the face of such visible suffering was unbearable and heartbreaking. Shame on this awful team for turning a blind eye night after night.

Erik was fantastic. Whatever I needed, anything I asked. Not much English, so don't expect his fluency.
The room was small but practically "soundproof." I could hear people in the hall, but it was otherwise as quiet as you could ever ask for. The room was spotless, and the building was cleaned daily
It had a mini - split, so the temperature was always to my liking. The TV had an app that had hundreds of movies in English.
I loved the neighborhood!!. Lots of shops, restaurants, a bakery, 7 restaurants within 2 blocks and dozens more within a short walk.
Small shops and 2 major supermarkets within a few blocks.
The rooftop kitchen was enough to enjoy my breakfast and a to-go meal at night. I spent a lot of time up there.
Boasting a charming terrace with a pool, Hotel Balovento is set in a modern building in the Bocagrande neighborhood, just 2 blocks from the beach. Free WiFi and parking are available.
Featuring free WiFi and a hot tub, Voilá Signature Casa Isabel offers accommodations in Cartagena de Indias. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar. Every room is equipped with a mini-bar and a TV.

My favorite thing about the property was the staff. They were very friendly and accommodating. The property itself was exceptionally clean, in a great location, and uniquely decorated.
Casa Pestagua Boutique Hotel is set in an impressive 18th-century aristocratic mansion belonging to the Count of Pestagua. It offers 11 exclusive suites, a rooftop hydromassage tub.
Carefully restored Casa Quero is located in the heart of Cartagena de Indias. It offers an outdoor pool and panoramic views of Corralito de Piedra. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
