United StatesI liked Oban as the centre of all things special about Rakiura/Stewart Island. The location of the hotel is excellent & can be seen & walked to from the ferry wharf. Looking out at the harbor from the hotel is wonderful for sunrise & sunset, a pristine little harbor. I didn't heed the warning to advance book (prior to arriving to the island) for dinners at the restaurant so didn't get to enjoy a meal there but had a chowder in the pub - really good. There are nice walks from the South Sea Hotel around the local area, to Golden Harbor (not far) & to see kiwi at night.

They took us back when we checked out and showed us where to store our bags so we were free to explore the island until our flight left. The staff were amazing and offered some guidence for us to be able to book the things we wanted to do. We loved being able to open the balcony doors and enjoy the bird life in the plantings that surrounded the motel. We were greeted by host when we arrived and they took us and our luggage to our meeting point for Ulva island taxi. They took our luggage to the motel.
