Vidin is quite a relaxed sort of town, where you can go out and eat at a different cafe/restaurant every evening. The food i found was very good value by UK standards, well, extremely cheap in most cases. Be careful with the portion sizes though they can be extremely large... Getting around the town is very easy, everything is within a casual walking distance... You can buy everything in Vidin. There is a large outdoor market selling everything from fresh fruit and veg, electrical goods to chain saws and brush cutters. pretty diverse. There is also a small, modern shopping mall if you wish to shop and recover from the heat of the day in the air conditioning. The mainstay of your visit will more than likely be relaxing with coffee and cake in the mornings, watching the world go by.. Trips to the local fortresses/monasteries during the day then copying the locals in the evening by strolling through the shaded riverside park before eating in the nearby restaurants. Not exactly high activity but, eating, drinking and relaxing is the order of the day.
Vidin is a nice town, on the banks of the Danube, with plenty of walks beside the river, a nice meal can be had on the boat not far from the hotel Dunev. We only stayed the one night as had business in Vratsa However it did rain the day we was there and there was a storm the day before, so we could not complete our business in Vidin, will return next year in April to do that... just hope it is dry
I've enjoyed vidin as it is a boarder town, so easy to pop over to other Countries for site seeing or just for lunch. It a busy little place, but has all the shops and banks that you will ever need. No shortage of restaurants or bars for beer or coffee.
GREAT PLACE , THE DANUBE RIVER IS AMAZING ,LOTS OF HISTORY AROUND VIDIN , AN THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY
At 9pm on Sunday it felt like a ghost town. We were standing in the middle of the town center and only saw about 10 people pass by within a half an hour. In the morning it was more lively. I was surprised to see people charging for parking given the size of the place and the state of the streets in general (more holes in the road than I could count, few traffic signs, etc), but you can't really be mad about that, can you? Unfortunately, I left Vidin with a very bitter taste in my mouth as a local approached my car window and shouted at me for making a wrong turn while following another car through the parking area. He gave a me a lecture on how "because I was from Belgrade I thought I could do whatever I wanted" and when I said I didn't see any signs telling me I couldn't go there he continued to shout at me. After this I gave up trying to find a place to have breakfast and left the town. For good.
Vidin is a most underrated city. It is a very interesting Bulgarian city. Historic Architecture, the Fort, the Synagogue, the Churches, the Danube Riverside Promenade, the Parks, the Theatre, the Concert Hall, the Cuisine, the Old City, Electric Bike Hire, The new bridge to Calafat etc. etc. Friendly locals in a very safe setting. Even though many people say the North East of Bulgaria is one of the poorest regions in the EU, we did not encounter any homeless people or beggars in Vidin over four days. The pretty town of Belogradchik is only 50 minutes away by mini-bus. Well worth a visit.
Vidin is a lively border town, with all you need banks, shops cafes, good restaurants and in easy reach of many interesting places including other Countries.
Vidin is a wonderful Bulgarian town full of many beautiful historical sights, which I think everyone should see.
Vidin has been largely overlooked but is really quite a nice relaxing town with some history thrown in. Arrival on the fist evening was to a ghost town, but the following morning everything came alive.
