Be careful of taxi drivers. overcharging you. No traffic, fresh air and nice and easy going for a city.. Glacier and wildlife tour by cruise was great. There are no reptiles in Alaska. The only thing wrong is that they have numerous earthquakes daily. I could retire there!
I overnight from a cruise. It is nice and the museum is a must see if you have time. My hotel was in walking distance to downtown which was great. I had the roasted beet ice cream at Alaskan ice cream downtown, it was great. I had dinner at the slippery Salmon it was just Ok.
Nice little town Spit area is great Loads of tours to see wildlife, glaciers, fishing Easy to navigate around Homer Highly recommend alaska bear adventure team!!
Enjoyed the Museum. Walking around was very easy Very friendly people Arrived mid October. Lots closed for winter so felt we missed out a lot especially Alaska a Heritage museum
Fairbanks is a winter wonderland!! Lovely helpful locals. Aurora chasing and dog sledding with 1st Alaskan Tours was brilliant. Hired appropriate winter gear from the fabulous Alaska Element. Cannot recommend them highly enough!!
Anchorage was a 3 day stopover after arriving in Alaska from a cruise and continuing to tour Canada. It suited our needs and the stay was plenty. City didn't seem to offer much although we would highly recommend the Anchorage Museum which was excellent.
Anchorage is well located as a base for a week-long trip. We also stayed overnight in Denali (Healy) and could have stayed overnight in Seward had we more time. The town seemed quiet but you could find activities, shopping, and good food if you looked. There are many shopping options downtown. The Coastal Trail was pleasant to walk on. We liked eating at Pho Lena, Mama O’s, and Revolving Sushi Bar, the first downtown and the latter two near Northern Lights Blvd and Spenard, not far from Carr’s (Safeway) grocery store. We also enjoyed the Alaska Heritage Center visit to learn about native peoples. Easy Park provided cheap and safe parking downtown.
We had a perfect travel to Anchorage after cruising from Vancouver to Seward Alaska. We rented a car. Beautiful scenic drive. We visited the beautiful Anchorage Museum, Aurora Theater, the Mall, etc. It takes awhile to get used to drive around one-way streets.
I liked the scenery, the trolley bus tour was informative and fun, the markets on Saturday had interesting food. The museum had interesting art, and thought provoking special exhibitions as well as a fascinating dinosaur exhibition and history of Alaska display. The coastal walk and bike trails showed a completely different city to the taxi route. The hospital was efficient and sorted out our medical problem very well. Restaurants were excellent.
Loved the trip in on the Alaskan State Ferry. No public transport from ferry terminal though. Share a taxi is best . Total cost is $40. Great walks and tourist shopping in Juneau! Be prepared for the arrival of 4 cruise ships every day!
Anchorage
I broke my arm while we were in Alaska so we spent a bit more time in the apartment than we originally planned. So it is with extra appreciation that I can say the apartment was clean, warm and comfortable, and had everything we needed, almost like being at home. Anchorage is quite small so everything seemed pretty close. Oh, small note to owners with respect to arrival instructions - it isn’t immediately clear which is the “front” & which is the “back” of the property. It would be good if a plan showing the unit entrance could be provided.
Sterling
It was nice and smaller. The people who cared for the property ran a tight ship. Some people came at one point and were causing problems with noise and were dealt with. I don’t know if they were guests or people who just stopped there. But it was dealt with quickly. The rooms were basic, but nice and clean. It seemed like a work in progress. It it is going in the right direction. Hotels and accommodations in Alaska are different than other places. So you can’t hold them to the same standard as in Europe or the lower 48 and parts of Canada.
Anchorage
Scott was very thorough in his communication and the location is great not far from any of the highways, the complex is family friendly and in a safe neighborhood. We loved the decor it set a perfect ambiance for being in Alaska. I would definitely recommend this property over a cramped hotel room and would stay here again if I am ever visiting this beautiful country again. Thankyou Scott for recommending Simon and Seaforts Saloon and grill, the waterfront view and the food was out of this world :)
Talkeetna
LOVED this lodge. I stayed at 7 locations across Alaska, this was the best by far. Perfect location, homely common area with books and a TV etc, SUPER comfortable beds, cabins felt so cosy, fun Alaskan themed decor made it feel like a home and not just a hotel; the staff went out of their way to allow us to check in very late by leaving a friendly personalised note. You can wander down to the banks of the Susitna River to the most spectacular Denali view. Cannot recommend this Lodge enough!
The breakfast was phenomenal!! The staff were beautiful people inside and out, they really made my family's trip to Alaska a trip to remember! They were exceptionally helpful and kind. They went up and beyond to help with any and everything from providing rides to downtown or the airport, to making sure my older parents were fed when we arrived very late from the airport. Their kindness and service was intentional and truly a blessing. Awesome hotel! I highly recommend!!!
Anchorage
Was really happy with the size of the room, the cleanliness, the amenities provided, the location, the check-in process was quick and simple and the lady that managed it was extremely friendly! Would not hesitate to stay here again. Location couldn't have been more perfect, just short walk away from the train and everything else in the city. There was even a kettle provided, which was not the standard in most of the accommodations/hotels I stayed in, in Alaska.
Glennallen
It was the best place in Alaska we had a pleasure to sleep in. Very nice hotel, with the authentic soul, located in a picturesque lake shoreline. They are providing very tasty, complimentary breakfasts, you can also order other meals and drinks later. I promise you that a pint of beer on a very green grass in front of the lodge will taste like nowhere else. You can rent a free canoe and explore neighboring islands, water in the lake was warm so we enjoyed swimming too.
The Historic Anchorage Hotel was part of our adventure to explore our 49th state, Alaska. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Anchorage and everything is within easy walking distance (including the train station). The breakfast was wonderful, the staff VERY accommodating! On the day we were leaving, we had to be up and out at 5am. The staff had positioned a luggage cart just outside our door. We've never had a hotel do that for us before.
Anchorage
It's clear that the owner is working on many upgrades to the property. The living room and bedrooms were very comfy. I slept great! There was ample space and lots of towels. Because it's Alaska, there is no air conditioning, and since it was a warm weekend, having multiple large fans was a plus. The location is convenient to many stores and restaurants if you have a car. This was a far cheaper option than getting a hotel suite in the summer.
During our stay in Alaska we stumbled on the charming city of Palmer as we headed North to Denali National Park. We stayed one night at the Eagle Hotel and liked it so much, we decided to stay another night on our return trip to Anchorage. It is conveniently located about 30 minutes outside of Anchorage. The hotel and room are extremely clean and although we didn't use it, has a very nice laundry room.
Anchorage
Sunstar Alaska is a wonderful small business run by an amazing host who puts her passion, craft and work ethic into every aspect of her work. A good business takes care of a guest. A good hotel provides quality and comfort for their guest. Doing both makes a great business. The level to which the owner/operator cares for her guests and provides comfort, care and quality for her guests is simply the best.
Fairbanks
Room was clean, bed comfortable, and included mini fridge and Keurig Coffee maker with pods. Location in Downtown Fairbanks a plus, easy access to all restaurants, museums, and short drives to watch the Northern Lights. We booked the stay to extend our time in Alaska after our cruisetour. This was an affordable option over the local hotels in Fairbanks.
This was our first trip to Alaska as of now we are in our 4th hotel and at everyone, we say comfort inn was our favorite. It was clean and quiet, but the staff (Charlie and Chantel) provided us with exceptional service and went over and above to accommodate our needs. They were courteous and kind, and pleasant and thoughtful. Excellent employees.
Healy
Location was very quiet and serene, not overrun by the cruise ship industry as it is closer to the park. I loved the retro motel feel. Old furnishings but rooms were super clean! Weather your a tourist or Alaska Native needing a place to stay on the long road between Fairbanks and Anchorage, I’d highly recommend Denali Park Hotel!
Fairbanks
Breakfast had a good spread including options for vegetarians / vegans. Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The shuttle service provided by the Hotel is very convenient and they had nice drivers. They have a good arrangement with Northern Alaska Tour Company for guests who take their tours
It was a dignified and grand hotel with a historical background, excellently harmonizing with the pristine environment of Alaska. Having traveled to many places around the world, it was one of the most satisfying hotels I've stayed in. It is considered excellent in many aspects for the price.
Fairbanks
Clean bathroom, plenty of toilet paper rolls and towels. Walkable distance to nearby restaurants. Short ride from airport and Alaska train depot. There is Airlink Shuttle information in the hostel - $20 as am solo, it's a good alternative to Uber/Lyft.
Loved the authentic Alaska feel of the hotel. Bed was super comfy and the rooms were neat and well kept. Great shuttle services to the airport and downtown. There were lots of options for breakfast and dinner. Great range of equipment in the fitness centre.
Nenana
Robin is an excellent host. She attended to our every need. Hotel was in perfect location for our daily activities and within a nearby drive of Denali and restaurants etc. Rooms are cozy but have everything you need, including real Alaskan charm!
Seward
Convenient OKish hotel if you plan on taking the Alaska Railroad. They will pick up you and your luggage from the train station and drop you off at the hotel on arrival and do the same thing the other way on your departure…
