The moment I stepped into Malabar Hill Hotel, I felt an overwhelming sense of serenity. Nestled amidst nature, it’s the perfect place for those seeking a calming retreat from the hustle and bustle. The spacious rooms exude warmth, and each is spotlessly clean, offering cozy comforts that make you feel right at home. But what took my breath away was the balcony view. Imagine waking up to the chirping of birds, an expansive forest that stretches as far as the eye can see, with the azure sky above and a tantalizing glimpse of the ocean in the distance. And the pool? Simply a dreamy oasis. At their restaurant, each dish is a culinary masterpiece, with flavors so authentic, you can taste the richness of every spice. A little tip: if you prefer milder flavors, do request them to tone down the spices. My stay was made even more memorable by the trips we took. The Galla Fort exudes historical charm, the tea trip was an enlightening journey into the world of tea-making, and the Kollaghan Lake was a visual feast with its picturesque islands, lively birds, playful monkeys, and yes, we even spotted a crocodile! The host is exceptionally good. He supported us in all queries and plans we had. The room is very big and has everything one can wish. The host even has a generator to cover power outages. The breakfast. This is something else. You know these fancy restaurants where you order a menu with 5 courses and every course is something interesting you have never heard before? So, breakfast at Temple Tree is a Sri Lankas version of that. Every day we got served something new and so much that we even packed it for lunch.

This incredible property is one of the few to be situated right on the beach, with all the rooms overlooking the sea. Everything about this small hotel is wonderful! The swimming pool, also overlooking the ocean, has ample space to relax; and their restaurant has to be the best in the area. Everything we ate was delicious! We stayed for 4 nights and could happily have stayed longer. There is a natural tidal pool within easy walk and I had at least one turtle join me every time I swam there. My husband surfed right outside! No need for jumping into a tuk tuk to search for waves. Jamu surf hostel is just 2 roads away where daily drop in yoga classes are offered. Oh and best of all…the staff! So very friendly and helpful! All in all, a phenomenal stay!
