Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesFor such a tranquil place, it is very loud at night. The village dogs, roosters, and parties made my sleep inconsistent and overall poor. Pillows also could use improvement; however, the blankets were in abundance. Additionally, one team member was sneezing a lot as he was handling my food and money. He shared very casually that he had a flu, which doesn’t strike me as a safe practice when working with guests and handling their food.
Mayachik is a lovely place to stay away from the crowds. The gardens are cozy and provide plenty of privacy for relaxation. The bungalows are sealed very well, so little to no critters get inside. The shower is hot, and a traditional sauna makes a great addition to the experience. All food is freshly prepared, and they happily hold the food in case you’re running late. Filtered water is an essential bonus.

SloveniaThe place is a bit outside the city center – around a 20-minute walk – so if you’re looking to stay right in the middle of the action, keep that in mind. My bungalow was mostly in the shade and quite uphill, so I’d recommend asking for one lower down for a nicer experience. The staff are super friendly, and the food at the restaurant is absolutely excellent.

United StatesIt was a little ways from the center of San Juan. There were pros and cons with this. Quieter regarding people but noisy from chickens and dogs at night. Nothing the property can do about this.
The staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable. Pretty grounds with flowers and vegetation. Communal kitchen and restaurant were nice to have since it was about a 15 min walk to town. Great smoothies and healthy drinks. Nice to have Tuk-Tuks available to get us to the property for 10Q per person. Good value for the price.

United StatesBeautiful land, very relaxing environment with lots of greenery, hammocks and palapa tables to work or enjoy a meal. The vegetarian restaurant is superb and I ate most of my meals there in my 10 day stay. Yum!

CanadaSone dogs on the way to the hostel were a bit agro. I walked by them multiple times daily on a week long stay and they did stress me out a little tbh. The scary one is usually on a roof so, I guess you're pretty safe. Nothing to do with the hostel mind you. At the hostel, the yoga/workout area could use some attention, dusty floor and the exercise equipment not usable.
Lovely place to stay. A little bit out of town which was great. Lush and peaceful setting. Reliable WiFi and places to work. I worked a full time digital nomad job here for a week without much issue. Keep your devices charged though, and maybe get a local SIM, power outages around Atitlan are common enough. Beds and accommodation were good. Kind of open as there are no curtains on the beds but generally the other travellers were great and it wasn't an issue. Owner and employees/volunteers were super nice. Food in the restaurant yummy and reasonably priced.

United StatesWe were in a room where the toilet was really just a pit toilet and it smelled bad. The other thing was that whenever the sauna was on our room filled up with smoke.
Beds were comfortable, shower was wonderful, the room was very spacious. The food was fabulous, and the staff were great. There was a mix-up with our room when we arrived, but the owner resolved it very professionally.

FranceNothing ! Thank you Mayachik.
Great location in San Juan, perfect to relax. The bungalow was very nice and the shared bathroom clean. The staff was amazing, very very lovely and helpful. And the cooking ! So fresh and delicious, we had breakfast and dinner twice. Was the best part of our stay.

FranceMayaChick is a bit far away from the heart of San Juan but it’s the point of this place (just make sure to take a tuk tuk when you arrive by boat if you are weighed down). There are a lot of wild dogs around, it can be a bit frightening at night and they bark during the night (bring earplugs).
Remote and peaceful place in San Juan. True environment-friendly eco-hotel (the composting toilet is really OK). You can easily go to San Pedro by tuk tuk. The staff is welcoming and the owner Evelyn is really helpful in organizing transfers and excursions. Our guide Benjamin for Rostro Maya was great and we also enjoyed the San Juan cultural tour.

United StatesWe were a bit excited about the potential of the sauna and massage, but neither were available when we arrived. We only stayed one evening, so I can appreciate that there was not time to prepare for the massage and that the sauna could not be used due to rain.
The food was good, the staff was both friendly and helpful, and the hotel was very beautiful.

SwitzerlandThe place is located on the limits of San Juan. Though this offers some tranquility, the way to get there is a bit long and leads through some dark alleys. You can always get a Tuk Tuk though.
I stayed at one of their bungalows with a private bathroom. I liked the room, it offered a cupboard with locks, for the eco toilet there was a fragrance spray to avoid bad odors. The personal was very friendly and the food they offered was very tasty.

NetherlandsSince the location is slightly outside of San Juan (15 min walk), we had to pass a less well visited street. At night time, the dogs there were quite aggressive, so we always got a TukTuk just to drive past them. Also, many dogs in town were barking all night, so during our second night we woke up repeatedly.
We really felt as if we were in the middle of nature, despite being at walking distance from San Juan, which as a town we liked best during our stay at Lake Atitlan. The staff was super friendly, and although the food could be spiced a bit more, it was always freshly prepared with a lot of care and good ingredients. We didn't have a lot of time to make use of the other facilities offered by MayAchik, but they offer a wide variety. The beds were comfortable and we weren't bothered by any mosquitos (mosquito nets are also provided).

United KingdomThere was only one socket in our room but it isn’t such a problem as you could charge your devices sitting outside under one of thatched parasols, it was a very comfortable spot to work at.
A perfect spot for relaxing, surrounded by banana trees, very friendly dogs and helpful stuff. Food in the restaurant is amazing and all vegetarian . We also loved the eco and sustainability concept.

United StatesNothing!
The staff and owners clearly work very hard to maintain the property and make it sustainable and eco-friendly. They were all welcoming and helpful- we used the laundry services, massage, sauna, and airport shuttle, we borrowed books from the lending library and used the guest kitchen. Everything was wonderful and made our visit to San Juan fun and comfortable. We really loved spending time with the three dogs and various cats on the property- so loving and friendly. And the vegetarian restaurant was fantastic! We often chose to eat there instead of out in town. I can’t wait to go back.
