Dong Hoi has some beautiful beaches by the resorts, but there really isn't much else going on. There seemed to be 1-2 streets where you could shop or buy things, and there was no nightlife. I had a fourth floor front room with large breezy balcony and great views of the city, mountains, river, bridges lit up at night, memorial church, etc. Steep climb with no lift but well worth the effort. The hotel provided a free bike. The manager speaks very little English but her daughter (there evenings and weekends) is fluent and informative. Comfortable bed and furniture. Kettle provided.

I usually stay at hotels and decided that due to the reviews and location I would try something different. The Dolphin was a great change to the somewhat repetitive experience of hotels. She organized our expedition to the caves. Finally she made sure we had our taxi for 5am the next day to the train station.
