Surrounded by sacred mountains and untouched nature, Tamonkan is housed in a historic Japanese-style building. Complimentary tea and snacks are served to welcome guests. Dewa Shrine is located an 8-minute walk away. Free WiFi is available in all areas.

What a great find this place was. A very traditional Japanese guest house with ultra friendly and accommodating hosts. This property has been in their family for generations and they go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The meals were excellent and there was an English explanation for each dish served 😊. A big bonus is the short walk to the stairs to climb Mt Haguro. (Not that that makes the stairs any easier!) We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here!

Tsukaya Ryokan is a accommodation with a history of over 300 years. All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors.

Guests can enjoy meals and sake rice wine in a private dining room, or have a soak in the hot spring bath on site, boasting free flowing spring water retrieved directly from the spring source.

Of all the hotels and ryokans I stayed at during my two weeks traveling Japan, the night at Tsukasaya Ryokan was by far my favorite. Mrs. Shoji personally came out and greeted me at my taxi. From that moment onward, I felt as if I was receiving an experience personalized just for me. After showing me to my room, Mrs. Shoji informed me of several local attractions (parks, shrines, temples, etc.) that were lovely to visit prior to returning for dinner. Every moment of the stay felt thoughtfully crafted and authentic. The food was delicious, containing many dishes that I had never before experienced. The onsen, while small and enclosed, was at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling the best it has in years. The design of the structure was charming and authentic (as best that a foreigner like myself can judge). The staff were friendly and accommodating.

Very clean, friendly staff, delicious food, accommodating for children. While English is not spoken there they went above and beyond using translator apps to tell us about the meals. Have been to numerous onsen stay in Japan, this one ranks one of the best if not the best. The set dinner is overwhelming, the service is the best I have encountered in all my stay; After we have checked out of the hotel & as we were early for the public bus, we waited at hotel open area. The staff came to confirm our bus timing & specially made some traditional Japanese tea & served it with candies too. The thoughtful service really made our day. Thank you.

The private onsen in the room is amazing! The window can be fully opened and we enjoy the mountain view and fresh air so much. Tachibahana location is great too. We can take a pleasant walk along the Atsui river and experience the mountain village life.

We stayed at the room with toilet and bath. The room is new and clean. The shared bathrooms on the first floor are small but also very clean. The onsen water is not too cold or too warm. The breakfast is also very enjoyable. The ryokan owners are kind. This is a nice experience.

We have a great time at this onsen hotel. All good especially staff!! The dinner was served beautifully and delicious with gorgeous sunset view. Our room was a corner and top floor with 2 tatami rooms and living room. We could totally relax and we are sad to leave. We walked around this small town and talk to some local people who are extremely kind and helpful. We definitely will go back there some day.
