Kawaguchiko Lakeside Hotel 2 stars

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen-kyo, Fujikawaguchiko

Located just a minute's walk from Kawaguchiko Lake, Kawaguchiko Lakeside Hotel offers accommodation in Fujikawaguchiko, near Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge. Free WiFi is available throughout the entire property. The hotel is a minutes' walk away from the shores of Kawaguchiko and Kawaguchiko Herbkan. We came for the view which, from our room, exceeded expectations. We will come back because of the awesome staff who went out of their way to make us feel at home. We stayed one night on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto by train. We ordered dinner the night of arrival and breakfast the next day. Both were delicious, traditional Japanese meals served with a spectacular view of Mt Fuji. Our waitress inquired where we were headed and recommended we consider an express bus to Mishima where we could get a bullet train to Kyoto. We agreed and before we knew it she had already made reservations for us! This saved us at least an hour and the misery of several train stops. Not fully evident from the property description is the supreme location of the hotel. As the name suggests, it’s near the lake, but also within walking distance of convenience stores, restaurants and several shops. The hotel also offers shuttle service to and from the train station. If you are planning a stay in Kawaguchiko (which you should) and want to be pampered with the full Japanese experience, let Lakeside Hotel pamper you as they did our family.

Rakuyu 4 stars

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen-kyo, Fujikawaguchiko

Overlooking picturesque Kawaguchi Lake in the serene Mount Fuji area, Rakuyu boasts comfortable guest rooms and natural hot spring baths. Free Wi-Fi is provided in the public area.

The panoramic lake views and a cosy fireplace await guests in the lobby. Guests can rewind in the spacious hot spring bath, or reserve a smaller private bath at an extra charge. The hotel seemed too expensive compared to where we usually stay in other countries. We knew that Japan was expensive , and there was not much else available in that period. The good surprises were that food and drinks, including wine and cocktails, were available without limits. The Onsen was also free (except the private bath which we tried, and did not add much value). The hotel has a free shuttle that picks you up at the station and is located right next to the funicular. There is also a tourist bus stop next to the hotel. Although Mount Fuji is not visible from the hotel, the rooms have large windows with a fantastic view of the Kawaguchiko lake.
